If you're struggling with daily stress or are so tired with multi-tasking and app-switching, this article is for you. You can easily build a Slack workflow that makes you free from work about work without context switching.

Key Takeaways

  • You can build a complex workflow without code
  • You can reduce stress while optimising your work and life
  • You can gain revenue growth with a better experience

Hyper Productive Minimal People

There are 2 types of people in this world.

The first one is always super busy with lots of tasks to handle and they frequently switch multiple apps to get things done. They are so tired because of many context switching. They are more likely to work so hard to run their business because they have too many things to do. They often lose their focus.

The other one is going a digital minimalist. They are more likely to reduce time to check social media, email and other messaging apps. They keep their energy high throughout a day since they can focus on a certain task without context switching. They regulate their habits. They stay focused.

But, there's one more type of people in this world.

They reduce their workloads and stress by becoming a digital minimalist as well. The difference is that they automate their tasks and workflows with modern technology in a minimum viable way.

Join the Club With NoCode

No matter you have a technical background, you can be the one of the hyper productive minimal people. If you don't have any experience with Python or JavaScript, it's totally OK.

You can be a modern digital minimalist from now on!

Because you and I have strong partners called NoCode platforms. You don't necessarily have to learn how to write clean code or how to build an app from scratch. It requires you to connect the existing apps with a NoCode platform called Make (formerly Integromat.)

If you're already a Python expert, I believe that you'll also get some benefits from NoCode. With those tools, you can save your time to write non-essential code. You can focus on writing high-quality clean code.

Additionally, you can run your Python code in a Make scenario as well :)

Gain Productivity With NoCode

As a hyper productive minimal person, you can take full advantage of Slack and its features to get things done effortlessly. Slack has APIs and it enables you to build workflows in your Slack workspace.

Basically, Slack requires you to develop a Slack app to build a complex workflow. For instance, you need to define slash commands with a webhook integration, or you have to write some code for a backend app.

But, there's an another way for a little bit complex workflow.

You can simply connect a Slack channel to Make through the workflow and integrate with other apps like Todoist. Instead of developing a Slack app, you can utilise Slack channels to send the data to other apps.

In this case, you can create a task from Slack and it automatically creates a task in Todoist so that you can avoid losing your focus with switching multiple apps. It also helps you create tasks from mobile.

Benefit and Evidence

When it comes to the benefits of being a super productive minimal person, it's not only reducing your stress while optimising your work and life.

According to Salesforce, the more you and your team are satisfied, the faster revenue growth you can achieve. The research shows that you can probably achieve 1.8X faster revenue growth by increasing the business quality.

In partnership with Forbes Insights, Salesforce surveyed 300 executives across employee experience (EX) and customer experience (CX) roles and found that companies that prioritized EX to deliver a premium CX achieved 1.8 times faster revenue growth.

What would you think? It's a kind of the inside-out approach that makes everyone happy, isn't it?

So, let get into the details. To do this, you need to upgrade your Slack to a paid plan. Thanks to Slack, you can also start 90 day trial for free. That's really helpful.

The 5 steps to turning your Slack into a super app

  1. Prepare 2 channels for workflow and log
  2. Build a 3-step workflow in a channel
  3. Prepare Todoist for the workflow
  4. Create a new automation scenario
  5. Test and use the workflow

1. Prepare 2 channels for workflow and log

The first step is to add 2 channels for workflow and system log. For the workflow, you can add a public channel and it's better to use a private channel for the system log.

2. Build a 3-step workflow in a channel

The second step is to build a simple workflow in the channel and send a message from the public channel (workflow) to the private channel (system log.) It enables you to create a task from the log message.

3. Prepare Todoist for the workflow

The third thing you can do is to add labels to your Todoist. In this case, I use a label "va" for the automation. VA means virtual assistant.

With labels you will add more automation to make you free from other BS jobs later on.

4. Create a new automation scenario

The fourth step you need to do is to connect the workflow you've built to an automation scenario made with Make.

You can skip the step by importing the template I created for you. All you need to do is to set new connections for Slack and Todoist.

5. Test and use the workflow

The final step is to make sure the workflow automation works properly.

As you can see, the task has automatically created in Todoist from your Slack workflow without developing any Slack apps!

There are 2 reasons you need to create the private channel for system logs in your Slack. The first one is to deal with an unexpected error when creating a task in Todoist. The second thing is to skip developing a Slack app.

Template for Free!

As I mentioned above, you can download the automation template on my GitHub project.

The installation is quite simple. After you download the template as a JSON file, you create a new scenario and import the file into the new scenario. Then, you can modify the connection of Todoist and Slack.

If you need a visual instruction, please refer to the README file.

Of course, it's completely free! But, if you liked this template, please add a STAR ⭐️ to my GitHub project or buy me a coffee via this link. I love coffee the same as you ☕️

But keep in mind, this effortless automation doesn't fit to the following type of people.

  • The people who don't want to change anything
  • The people who don't want to invest in anything
  • The people who don't want to learn how it works

On the other, I believe that the following type of people really fit in.

  • The people who seriously want to reduce daily stress
  • The people who really want to challenge the status quo
  • The people who want to increase revenue growth with happiness

If you're the latter one, I believe that you're gradually getting better and better with effortless automation. You can build a fully automated business as a result!

Take Action Now!

For the first step, you can sign-up Make and upgrade the plan at least Core. It costs only 9 dollars per month.

You can hire a virtual assistant for 200 dollars a year. This investment is quite effective.
